ABOUT US

Our business vying to be the largest fuel distributor in the Goldfields…

Eagle on Wilson

Eagle Petroleum commenced its independent operations on the 1st of July 2007. The owner, Geoff Biddle, saw an opportunity to start an independent fuel and oil distributorship in the Goldfields region. Eagle Petroleum prides its success on being a customer focused business, striving to meet the needs of their customers above their competitors. Eagle Petroleum is owned and operated by Geoff Biddle who has over thirty years fuel industry experience, and nine years managing a fuel distributorship in the Goldfields for BP. Geoff is a qualified accountant and has extensive experience in the  development and implementation of software and hardware systems. During the 1980’s he managed the project the implemented the first online card systems at BP’s retail outlets and from 1989 – 1994 developed and implemented BP’s national distributor computer system. “Eagle” has supply contracts in place that ensure the consistent delivery of quality fuels and lubricants. Diesel and motor spirit is transported to Kalgoorlie by Road Train and is either delivered direct to customer storage tanks or via significant bulk storage facilities located in West Kalgoorlie. Fuel Distributors of Western Australia, Desert Sands and two locally based road tankers provide the cartage and delivery logistics. Fuel is supplied from terminals to Kwinana. Source of quality fuel s either BP refined product from Kwinana or Shell refined product supplied through Esperance.

The humble beginnings of the business commenced from the lounge room – office in Hare Street, Lamington residence in early 2007. A mobile phone, laptop computer, a list of potential customer, one employee and a bold business plan were the only assets of Eagle Petroleum just over eight years ago.

Growth of the business has come in several managed stages. Our greatest fear was that if the business grew too quickly we would not be able to consistently meet customer expectations.

From July 2007 – January 2008 turnover steadily increased and had eventually quadrupled. The sales in this period were predominantly commercial deliveries to small mining operations, mining contractors and transport operators. In February 2008 Eagle Petroleum purchased the Leonora Roadhouse and commenced marketing aggressively in this region both retail and commercial sales. The Roadhouse was extensively refurbished during 2008. By mid 2008 the staff levels had grown from 3 – 12 and Eagle Petroleum was now supplying fuels, lubricants, tank storage solutions, pump hire, trailer hire, fuel management systems and services and products through retail roadhouses.

In August 2008 Eagle Petroleum commenced a renovation and refurbishment project of the former Shell Roadhouse in Coolgardie which had been closed and de-commissioned for a number of years. All of the internal redecoration was completed by Geoff and his family during weekends and after normal working hours. The Roadhouse was opened in November 2008. With the opening of the Eagle Coolgardie Roadhouse staff levels increased approximately 20.

The Coolgardie project was particularly satisfying because we were able to create a main highway roadhouse facility from a zero base to a business the has delivered double its budgeted turnover expectations in the first six months of trading.

A period of slow sales growth was experience during December 2008 – February 2009 with many customers suffering the effects of the Global Financial Crisis, particularly drillers and exploration contractors. Eagle Petroleum however continued to invest and expand operations by establishing “Card Operated Depots” in the locations of Coolgardie, Leonora and Laverton. These depots provide 24 hours, 7 days a weekend access for customers in local and remote areas and will become key supply points as exploration and mining activities bounce back. In June 2010, Eagle Petroleum broke the 2,000,000 litre record they had come so close to breaking on numerous occasions.

By late 2011 new locations of Hopetoun, Ravensthorpe, Menzies, Kalgoorlie West Truck-Stop, Kalgoorlie Wilson Street (including a “coffee drive-thru”) have been added to the Eagle Network. In February 2012 a new 24 hour Fuel Outlet will be operational in Wiluna.

Eagle has a strong commitment to deliver vital fuel supplies to outback/remote and mining communities.

Our success and continuing growth can be directly attributed to our focus on our customer needs.
